The best way to pick a floor color is to see it on your floor. We can apply sample colors of our custom stain on your floor when we begin sanding. We can also show you 20- by 12-inch hardwood board tongue-and-groove samples stained in different shades so you can determine what you like best. The sample boards will give you a better representation than color chips and will show the color and grain patterns of the wood. We want to leave you with the perfect color for your room and will work with you until we find that color. Every floor takes stain differently. Oak floors stain with better consistency than maple which may look blotchy. Our floor stains are applied after water popping opens up the grain and allows deeper penetration of the stain.

Each floor is different, but typically, a stained floor can be repaired. Surface stains caused by water, pets, and plants may be removable by sanding. For penetration stains we may need to replace the boards. At a free consultation we can determine the best approach to stains and other imperfections in your hardwood floors.

Yes. Wood is a natural product and variations should be expected. Color variations add interest and beauty to the wood.

No. We recommend that you stay away from wax and any cleaning products that contain oil or acrylic. Wax may peel off, make the floor too slippery, and adversely affect how top-coating materials are applied in the future.  After completing any floor cleaning, buffing, coating, or refinishing we provide our customers with floor care maintenance tips and best practices.

A buff and coat service is the best option if you want to keep your hardwood flooring the same color and simply want to refresh the shine and cover surface scratches and traffic patterns. Paired with thorough cleaning, buffing and coating a floor on a regular basis is a great way to maintain a hardwood floor. How often we buff and coat a floor depends on use. A kitchen or main entrance may need buffing and coating sooner than a little-used living or dining room. Not all floors are candidates for the buff and coat. Damaged floors will require a complete sanding and refinishing.

It really depends on the activity in the home and how clean you keep the floor. Removing dry soil frequently, using the recommended cleaning products, and placing walk-off mats at entrances, sinks, refrigerators, etc. will keep the floor looking elegant for years to come. We use a commercial grade ceramic-fortified floor finish which is more durable than the aluminum oxide commonly used in floor finishes.

This depends on the layout of your home and the floors we are refinishing. Most of our clients stay in their homes and simply avoid the rooms where we are working. The final coat of finish dries quickly, and the floor will be ready for light usage and traffic (stocking feet) after 4-6 hours. Furniture can be put back after 24 hours and rugs after 7 days. During your free consultation we will map out a schedule of when the floor will be open to traffic.
